Open Question: what is my teacher talking about?
ok so the following is the question and my answer: Suppose you start with at least $52 in your savings account and deposit $27 each week. a. Write an inequality to describe how much money m you have after w weeks. b. If you do this for 11 weeks, will you have enough to buy a bicycle that costs $340? Explain, showing your work. Answer: w = weeks (11) m = money a. 52+27w = m b. 52+(27x11)=m 27x11 = 297 297+52 = 349 m = $349 So yes there will be enough money to purchase the bike. what she responded: Great job writing and solving this equation! Which inequality symbol should you put instead of the = to best fit this situation? I only got a 3/4 on this question so how do I make it better?

Open Question: Crazy bicycle gear idea?
I've been wondering about this for a while. I want to make a bike that's not impossible to pedal, but that can easily go about 30 mph. One thought that I've wondered about: If a third set of cogs is added, say on the middle post of the frame, can it be used to receive more torque (or whatever it's called)? The chain would go from the crank to a smaller gear that would rotate a larger cog. That larger gear would have another chain that rotates the rear gear, which would rotate the wheel like normal. There could be a derailleur on the middle gears, and maybe a cover to keep the rider's clothes clean. But, would this idea even work?

Resolved Question: By-product of illegal immigration. Do we really want this type of culture to flourish within our communities?
Pacoima Shooting Leaves 1 Teen Dead, 1 InjuredLOS ANGELES (AP) ― Click to enlarge1 of 1 CBS Close numSlides of totalImages Police say a 15-year-old boy has been killed and another teen injured in a shooting in Los Angeles. Police say the teens were riding bicycles in the Pacoima area when a black vehicle pulled up and a person inside opened flame after asking the boys where they were from. Los Angeles police Officer Karen Rayner says the 15-year-old was pronounced dead at an area hospital. She says the other boy, who is 16, was in stable condition early Tuesday. Lt. Robert Davis said police were continuing to investigate Tuesday morning. (© 2010 The Associated Press. every Rights Reserved. I'll bet you your life savings that some of members of that gang were teenage illegal immigrants. That was more then likely an initiation to receive into the gang and shooters were underage. MS-13, 18 and the other streetgangs in L.A. are rife with illegal aliens. That culture of violence is not home grown.

Open Question: Weight Training - Is my training correct? (ABCAB)?
Hi, Started to go to the gym last month and would like your opinion on my training (I copied it from my pal, same age and goals). My goal is gaining strength and muscle mass in the arms, upper-body and chest. I do not want to loose weight as I feel thin. I am also thinking of taking WHEY PROTEIN and CREATINE…Is it better to take them in an ‘every in one’ formula (like MaxiMuscle Cyclone) or buying them every separate? I usually eat chicken, roast potatoes for lunch and Italian pasta for dinner (And vegs sometimes) Please, give your opinions on my training or suggest me one! -- Monday – Chest, Shoulders and Triceps Tuesday – Back and Biceps Wednesday – Ø Thursday – AS MONDAY Friday – AS TUESDAY Saturday – Ø Sunday – Ø Note: Before the training: Bicycle and Rowing - 7 minutes each. Open Question: First night home and baby is fussy, help?
This is our first night home. My girlfriend was up with our daughter but I told her I'd take her so she could receive some relax. She's been upset for like 3 hours now. I've tried changing her, feeding her(she's on formula if it helps),making sure she wasn't hot/icy,turning off the tv,turning on a fan,her pacifier, rocking her, talking to her, doing the bicycle legs thing & going for a car ride. She might cease for 10 minutes tops. Is there anything else I can do to try to silent her? I really want my girlfriend to relax but she's not really going to if she hears our baby crying like this. Open Question: Is the Trail-Gator Child Bike Tow Bar a good solution compared to axle based solutions?
With axle based I mean for example the "Follow me tandem": http://www.followme-tandem.com/english/index.htm Is the Trail-Gator Child Bike Tow Bar a good solution? I am especially thinking of it compared to systems attached to the axle. The main thing is of course that it is a good solution for towing a bike (1) 2) Easy to take on and off. 3) Practical if you disconnect the child bike during a ride. 4) Other uses like pulling a wagon or one wheel trailer. I think the Trail-gator beats the axle type on (3). A bicycle store I went to said the Trail-gator had low quality, but my guess it is just to cheap for them to make any profit.

When my bike is on it's smallest cog, (on the back wheel) it has a tendency to slip in and out whilst I'm riding. It happens more often whilst I am standing up. Open Question: Can someone help me convert my multi-gear mountain bike to a single gear mountain bike?
I don't know anything about bicycles other than riding them, so I'm going to need a lot of help. I've looked at this Youtube video, but I'm still afraid of doing something wrong. Is every that really what I need or is he missing a few explanations? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93M9lvl8LM8 (It's the video I mentioned before.) And I want it to make it lighter and less prone to breaking, but not only that. When I ride my bike, I always keep it on the highest...(lowest?) gear (the one that makes you go faster) so I don't find a need for any other gear, except one. Also, I like doing rabbit hops. With the suspension a mountain bike has, it seems like there will be less stress on my body and the bike. The gears are screwed on and not riveted. Don't take money into account, but the cheaper the product the better. I'm open to other suggestions that will fit my wants too because I only know of this method of getting what I want.

Open Question: Latin Translation: The race of truth?
Hi every. I need some help with a translation, from English to Latin. The phrase--'The race of truth.' In this context, 'race' is to mean an activity (like a bicycle race, a swimming race, etc) and not an an ethnic designator. The phrase 'The race of truth' is commonly used in racing time trials, requiring every-out effort, where the racer expends every bit of his/her energy in the race. Based on the racer's performance, he/she must arrive to terms with his/her possess accomplishments or inadequacies, and has no one to blame but oneself (for failure). Thus--a race to force an honest appraisal of one's abilities. The online translators (i.e. Babelfish) give only literal translations of the words, destroying the context and beauty of the phrase. Thanks.

Open Question: Why do American conservatives drive cars?
The American right-wing is constantly going on and on about how they believe in difficult work and self-reliance as the best way to participate in modern society. Based on this, you would think they would every ride bicycles, since bicycles require the least amount of government subsidy from an infrastructure perspective, and literally run on your possess sweat and muscles (difficult work and self-reliance). So given these values, why do most modern American conservatives use a system of transportation (i.e. private autos on publicly-funded expressways and other road infrastructure) that requires a huge amount of government subsidy, and look down upon bicycles, a form of transportation that runs on difficult work and self-reliance, as "wimpy"?

Resolved Question: Touring bicycle shoes with standard pedals on a road bike?
A pal of mine recently gave me a pair of touring bicycle shoes, because they were too tiny for him. Anyway, My road bike has regular pedals, so I was wondering if I'd be able to use these shoes with my pedals. Are there other people who do this, or will I look like a jackass wearing bicycle shoes on regular pedals ?Further, will the stiffer sole make a difference when I ride 40 odd kms ,when compared with my sneakers ? Thanks in advance @Bob A and Tore: Thanks a lot for the super quick replies. I think I'll definitely consider buying new pedals (possibly the combi pedals) but I wont be able to buy those for at least a month. So do u think I could still use the shoes in the meantime? thanks again

Open Question: 8% gdp growth.....11% next year?
but is this economic benefits even reaching out of the pockets of exporters and manufacturers?? The World Bank estimates that 456 million Indians (42% of the total Indian population) now live below the global poverty line of $1.25 per day (PPP). This means that a third of the global needy now reside in India. However, this also represents a significant decline in poverty from 60 percent in 1981 to 42 percent in 2005, although the rupee has decreased in value since then, while the official standard of 538/356 rupees per month has remained the same.[4][5] Income inequality in India (Gini coefficient: 32.5 in year 1999- 2000)[6] is increasing. On the other hand, the Planning Commission of India uses its possess criteria and has estimated that 27.5% of the population was living below the poverty line in 2004–2005, down from 51.3% in 1977–1978, and 36% in 1993-1994[2]. The source for this was the 61st round of the National Sample Survey (NSS) and the criterion used was monthly per capita consumption expenditure below Rs. 356.35 for rural areas and Rs. 538.60 for urban areas. 75% of the needy are in rural areas, most of them are daily wagers, self-employed householders and landless labourers. Although Indian economy has grown steadily over the last two decades, its growth has been uneven when comparing different social groups, economic groups, geographic regions, and rural and urban areas.[3] Between 1999 and 2008, the annualized growth rates for Gujarat (8.8%), Haryana (8.7%), or Delhi (7.4%) were much higher than for Bihar (5.1%), Uttar Pradesh (4.4%), or Madhya Pradesh (3.5%).[7] Poverty rates in rural Orissa (43%) and rural Bihar (41%) are among the world's most extreme.[8] The India State Hunger Index 2008 by the International Food Policy Research Institute. Punjab has the best nutritional situation, whereas malnutrition in Madhya Pradesh is worse than in Ethiopia or Sudan. India has a higher rate of malnutrition among kids below the age of three (46% in year 2007) than any other country in the world.[3][9] Despite significant economic progress, 1/4 of the nation's population earns less than the government-specified poverty threshold of 12 rupees per day (approximately USD $0.25). Official figures estimate that 27.5%[10] of Indians lived below the national poverty line in 2004-2005.[11] A 2007 report by the state-run National Commission for Enterprises in the Unorganised Sector (NCEUS) found that 77% of Indians, or 836 million people, lived on less than 20 rupees (approximately USD $0.50 nominal; $2 PPP) per day.[12] As per the 2001 census, 35.5% of Indian households availed of banking services, 35.1% owned a radio or transistor, 31.6% a television, 9.1% a phone, 43.7% a bicycle, 11.7% a scooter, motorcycle or a moped, and 2.5% a car, jeep or van; 34.5% of the households had none of these assets. [13] According to Department of Telecommunications of India the phone density has reached 33.23% by Dec 2008 and has an annual growth of 40% i dont think so we are worthy of being counteed in the top 3 developing nations at every with such statistics! what do u say? @maitree moreover rs 20 per day itz no where around the benchmark the bench mark should be rs 100 coz tat is what u need today to have two meals a day and have a decent place to snooze...and some clothes @maitree tatz what i m sayin rs 20...what is rs 20???? @rahul well yea i copied it from wikipedia..and the wikipedia copied it from # ^ The Multidimensions of Urban Poverty in India,Centre de Sciences Humaines - New Delhi # ^ [12] # ^ Lifting The Poverty Veil J. Open Question: Help identifing a painting of women riding bicycles in the 1800s. Saw it in American/European history textbook?
I cannot find a painting I remember seeing in either an American Government or European History textbook during high school (2004-2005). I remember the painting using very feminine pastel colors depicting maybe three women in traditional mid-tardy 1800s (or early 1900s) dresses riding bicycles in an idyllic country setting. The bicycles were adorned with garlands of flowers and the painting evoked serenity and elegance. It was included in the chapter as an example of an invention that gave women more freedom (in the form of increased mobility, obviously). If anyone knows which painting I am trying to describe, please let me know. Thank you.

Resolved Question: Answer these psychology questions?
The environment in which we evolve appear to be stable and constant. To what is attributed this constance in our perceptions? - It depends on Emmert's law (lol) - It is due to a combination of many illusions - It's an innate mechanism - It's due to the vast array of different stimulations The ambiance of a bar car give an impression of cacophony, but thanks to a specific phenomenon, John can remember a conversation he had with his new conquest. Which phenomenon is it? - Subliminal perception - The cocktail party effect (lol?) - Voluntary perception - The theory of the deduction of signals Which of these could illustrate the mechanism of the mechanism of the constance of scale? - The launching of a rocket - Faraway mountains that have a blue-ish tint - The size of my shoes - The wheel of a bicycle I had to translate this stuff from my language, so the "scientific" terms are probably called differently than how I worded them but hopefully you can figure out by context what they refer to. haha wow nobody could answer o_o

Open Question: Is this a good Cardio Schedule for the gym?
Im trying to lose some extra weight i have. However, i want to prevent things from getting boaring at the gym and me to lose motivation. I currently run or run on a machine (cant think of the name at the moment) for about 30 minutes, losing ~330 calories. I try to go for 45 minutes, but it gets extreamly boaring. To prevent this, i thought about this. 20 minutes treadmill (5 minute walk, 10 minute brisk run, 5 minute quick run) 20 minutes bicycle (hills, probably. not sure.) 20 minutes orignal machine. after words doing crunches. Thoughts? The idea is to run 60 minutes, keeping things intresting. Instead of 45 minutes.

Resolved Question: losing weight... the healthy and fast way.?
I'm 5'11" and I weight about 160 pounds. I adore everything about my body EXCEPT the lower belly bulge. I've been on a diet where I only drink water eat 3 meals a day with snacking in between.. like celery and things such as that for about 2 weeks now. I am going to start running/jogging everyday with a pal and I hear cardio is the best thing for weight loss. Now, what are some good belly exercises for me to lose this weight before summer.. I guess I'd like to lose about 10 pounds in the process. I'm female.. btw. and I have an ab lounger ultra and a bicycle machine. So, give me these ab workouts and do you think I can do this before summer?

Open Question: Is this just a coincidence, or was I meant to see it?
She overreacted and ended things two weeks ago. It wasn't the first time we ended things. I was helping her with a charity, sending tents to Haiti. I promised her I would still help. Two days after our battle, she wrote on her facebook "Life is like riding a bicycle, to keep your balance, you have to move forward." That I figured was for me, especially since she rarely writes quotes on her facebook. The only time we spoke after our battle, was when I called asking if she wants to pick up the tents I had collected. She accused me of using the charity as an excuse to talk to her. I got really annoyed, and told her to just give me the charities address and I would drop it off myself. The women at the charity was extremely nice, and I ended up helping some more. I am pretty sure my ex was told that I've been helping. Anyways, a few days ago, she changed her facebook comment to "A man is not finished when he is defeated. He is finished when he quits." I am wondering if this comment was meant for me or am I looking too much into this? She also posted pictures of the last time we spent the day together. I hate taking photos, so I am not even in them. I know she's acting immature. Is this facebook thing just a coincidence?

Resolved Question: Does this mean anything or am I looking too much into this?

I am wondering if this comment was meant for me or am I looking too much into this? Forget how immature she's acting, and that using facebook to communicate is awful. I am just wondering if this was meant for me or not.

Open Question: Is this a good Cardio Schedule?
Im trying to lose some extra weight i have. However, i want to prevent things from getting boaring at the gym and me to lose motivation. I currently run or run on a machine (cant think of the name at the moment) for about 30 minutes, losing ~330 calories. I try to go for 45 minutes, but it gets extreamly boaring. To prevent this, i thought about this. 20 minutes treadmill (5 minute walk, 10 minute brisk run, 5 minute quick run) 20 minutes bicycle (hills, probably. not sure.) 20 minutes orignal machine. after words doing crunches. Thoughts? Woops. Forgot to mention. the idea of this to for me to run 60 minutes, and keep it intresting, instead of 45 on the same machine.
